Week 17

Pregnancy Blog

I hope that I can continue to report that things are going amazingly. Pregnancy so far has been great and I do not have much to complain about. I feel really great! I am still working out 5 days a week. I have about 75% of the energy that I had before I got pregnant but I still power through my daily workouts. My appetite is really good and I have been trying to keep it healthy and clean. Whole grain cereals, fruit, veggies, greek yogurt and proteins. I have not really experienced this whole craving thing but I have read that it will come eventually. I feel like Jon has more cravings than I do. He has been buying pints of ice cream at the grocery store and did convince me to share some with him twice in the last week. Most night my evening snack is a chobani greek yogurt flip. Other than things being fantastic I have suffered a few symptoms that I do not enjoy. Last week and into this week I have had the worst dry nose and eyes. It is horrible and so far I have not found anything to cure it. If anyone has any ideas let me know! The other awesome pregnancy symptom has been gum irritation. I actually ended up with a gum infection which I cured by oil pulling. The next time you have any of these problems give it a try. It worked for me!

The other thing is Baby Brain! Another pregnancy thing that I thought did not really exist. Well it definitely does. My pregnancy rage has been replaced with just pregnancy stupidity this past week. I did not know if I was going to share this part since I am embarrassed that I have done these things. This past weekend I was in the shower, I shaved one leg and did not realize I forgot the other one until I was getting dressed. This one I could accept as maybe my mind was somewhere else. The best one was when I was on the “What to Expect when you are Expecting” board. I was so excited to see that someone on the board was using the same OB practice as me. I told Jon and wrote the person a message to see how they liked the practice. I waited to hear back from them but never did. I looked at it again and came to the conclusion that the original poster was me!! I had answered my own post and was messaging myself. So if you are pregnant or have been and can think of a better one than mine please share it with me! I have shared with you now it is your turn. Please share!

Week 16

Pregnancy Blog

Week 16 started off with us being in Canada visiting my family for Thanksgiving. It was a great trip but I have to admit I was really worried and anxious about the baby the whole time. Now that I am in my second trimester I feel fantastic and I took that as there has to be something wrong with the baby. I was worried that I felt too good! I didn’t feel any pregnancy symptoms at all anymore.  All was fine when I had gone to the see my doctor after returning home and we saw the baby and heard its heart beat. I was so relieved!

I did not get in any exercise when I was away. So that was 4 days away from the gym and I know people think I am crazy but I really missed it. I was back to the gym as soon as I got back home! I used some of my regular routines for the week. You can find them here:

Being home visiting I did not stick to my normal eating plan. All of our days started with Tim Hortons coffee. If you have never had it, you are missing out! We have Timmies here in Manhattan but it does not taste the same. You have to have it in Canada to have the real deal!

Pregnancy Blog

Since we were celebrating Thanksgiving I had to have wine. I had my first experience with non alcoholic wine. I can tell you no matter what anyone says it does not taste anything like the real thing. It was great to have a glass to hold and to toast with though.  That way I did not feel to left out of the festivities. I know  I posted about it last week but the pregnancy rage did appear again on this trip. Jon and I had gotten to the airport early. Jon thinking I would want to get home sooner rather than later asked to get us on an earlier flight. We were put on the earlier flight. Instead of being happy I was pissed that he did not think of the nutritional needs of the baby. I was so hungry I was irrational. I was mad at him for not realizing that we would be in the air at dinner time and then by the time we got home it would be after 10pm and to late for me to eat dinner. I continued to complain through security and then once we got to our gate said there were no food options that were good for me and the baby. I am lucky I have a patient husband.  I would never want to deal with me being pregnant, hungry and cranky.  I eventually settled on some fruit and hummus with crackers. Once feed I was my normal happy self again. Word to all partners make sure your pregnant significant other is well feed or else!

The best part of my week other than our little trip was having our anatomy scan ultrasound. It was amazing. The little one did not want to co operate and kept hiding his/her face from us. We did get to see their face for a few seconds when the tech put it on 3D for us to get a good look. It was so amazing. I can not wait until our next ultrasound next month. She did ask us if we wanted to know the sex but we are still keeping with not finding out till the big day. I did peek a little but I could not tell what I was even looking at!

Exercise After Pregnancy

I know I am still pregnant and only 4 months but my mind is already on how will I get back to where I was after giving birth. Through my blog Helene Byrne reached out to me. Helen Byrne is a Perinatal Exercise Specialist. Helene has sent me a great book on Exercise After Pregnancy called just that.

The beginning of the book starts out with pregnancy and your body. This helps to establish all that your body has gone through during your pregnancy. Re-aligning your posture will be the first step. I have already found going into the second trimester that my posture is not the same. There are some great stretches and moves that will be able to help you out with getting your posture back the way it should be. This was something I had never even thought about. Week 15

Things have been going pretty good. Actually really good. I feel so good I do not even know that I am pregnant. Well that is if you do not count the mood swings or pregnancy rage as we have come to call it. Last Monday we went to see Gravity in IMAX 3D, it was not at my regular theater so this was the beginning of the rage. Since it was not my regular theater they did not have my flavored sparkling water to go with the popcorn. They only had caffeinated beverages or water. Poor Jon went to get us drinks and popcorn. The whole time all I could think is: He is going to come back with water. I hate water and popcorn together. He come back with of course WATER. A normal person with just accept that, I became a 3 year old. I refused to drink the water and of course there was no way I was eating the popcorn with water! They do not go together!! Husbands are saints during pregnancy because I could have killed me. We went to see in the theater and wait for the movie to start. For 15 minutes before the movie started I had my arms folded over and ignored Jon because you know it is his fault they do not have flavored sparkling water. Slowly I began to get to hungry, I wanted to eat the popcorn so bad but did not want to take it now that I made such a big deal about it. I waited till the movie started then I slowly started to eat the popcorn. I had to I was an angry, hungry pregnant lady! This is just one example of my irrational pregnant behavior.

Friday we flew from New York to Toronto to visit friends and family for Canadian Thanksgiving. I was a little worried about flying but at 15 weeks 6 days I was pretty good. I actually did not feel pregnant. So any of you that are worried about flying early on in 2nd trimester, do not worry at all. It was fine but the flight was also only 1 hr 15 minutes. I will write more about my trip next week when I recap week 16! The best part of my week was still being able to zip up my size 2 Nanette Lepore dress. I know sounds vain but it really made me happy! Jon knew if that dress did not zip there could be a rage moment. I think he was holding his breath while doing it up the zipper for me! Poor guy he deserves a medal at this point.  Have a great week!

Well it is close enough that I can start counting down to our BabyMoon! We will heading to Sandals Halcyon in 5 weeks. We are huge Sandals Resorts fans and have been to many of their resorts. I am looking forward to crossing St Lucia off of our travel bucket list. This will be the last Sandals we will be visiting for a while we will be graduating to Beaches Resorts for families. Our first trip to Sandals was Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay:

Week 14

Week 14

Just like everyone said as I head into the 2nd trimester things have gotten a lot better. There is no nausea and I have my energy back. I actually feel fantastic! Workouts are still going great. I am still managing to get to the gym everyday and sometimes twice. For those of you that are interested here are some of my workouts from last week:

With my appetite back and better than ever, I have to keep in check if I do not want to go overboard. I am on the “What to Expect when you are Expecting” forum and it blows my mind the things that people think are ok to eat just because they are pregnant. Lots of posts about eating whole bags of chips with soda for breakfast and going to drive thrus for lunch and eating 6 burritos!! I have still been able to have control not sure how healthy 6 burritos would be for the baby. I have tried to keep things healthy. I even cooked this week! I am still using all of my regular apps and my fitbit. I still use my calorie counter. Instead of the 1200 calories I used to aim for when I was trying to maintain weight, I have bumped it up to 1600-2000 depending on the day. I also found a great new app called “My Pregnancy Companion”. It is the only pregnancy app that I have found that has a calorie counter. This has been really useful since it is made for pregnant women like me. You can also enter your weight and it will graph it out so you know you are in a healthy range. So far so good, going back to the “What to Expect when you are Expecting” forum some ladies had commented on a post of mine and actually had the nerve to tell me that since I had gained 7 pounds I was gaining too much!! Blew my mind! There are a lot of people out there trying to diet and lose weight while pregnant, it is one extreme or the other. Lots of people over eating and lots trying to lose weight and a few like me just trying to embrace what is happening to my body without going over board! I did have a pizza date night this week and it was fantastic!

Week 13

The weeks just seem to be flying by me. We have now officially entered fall. Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather here in NYC has been incredible so far. This stage of my pregnancy has been amazing so far. I have my energy back, my appetite back and the moodiness has gone away. My workouts are now split up a little. I go to the gym and see what I can do in the afternoon but stay for less than hour. Then I go back in the evening with Jon and have a second workout. My stamina is not what it was a few months ago! With all of this activity, I am glad to say my appetite is back. I am trying not to cave into the cravings. You still can have will power while you are pregnant! Instead of ice cream at night I have switched to eating greek yogurt and I love it. Friday night is ice cream night and I look forward to it! I try to make sure I am getting in all the things that I should be for my pregnancy diet. I have been reading a great book called “Eating for Pregnancy”, this book has been a great help with keeping me on track. Being a first time mom believe me you need an eating guide. I had no idea all of the extra things that I would need to add to my diet that I was not already getting. It also has some great meal ideas and a ton of recipes.

This past week I joined the “What to Expect when you are Expecting” forum. The site has been a great place to visit and I spend quite a bit of time on there. It is a great forum where you can reach out to other moms that are due the same month as you or come from the same city as you. My husband Jon is fantastic but let’s face it he will never be able to understand the things that my body is going though. So it is great to have people to reach out to that are experiencing the same things at the same time. If you are pregnant and have not checked out the site, I recommend you do it today!
